Advertising Networks

As a webmaster you have a choice - pursue your own little deals with various advertisers or let an advertising network effectively do it on your behalf. After building a site, the first consideration any webmaster gives is to choosing an advertising network to display ads and make money.

These networks take the hassle out of you having to find your own advertisers by providing a range of ads that are served on your site by virtue of some code. Most decent networks provide a variety of methods to earn money - 468x60 banners, large 700+ superbanners, skyscrapers, pop unders, interstitial and invue type ads. A few have text based ads aswell.

I learned early on never to place a reliance on 1 type of network for my earnings, as sometimes companies fail or simply shut up shop. Diversify, join various ad networks and have a solid core of good earning revenue sources. I currently have around 9 real solid earners with 5 or so backups.

Below are my selection of the advertising networks you should apply for. Ensure your website is fully working before applying as many networks simply don't accept any old site :)

FastClick - One of the prime networks. Good cpm, cpc rates, variety of advert types and extremely regular payment schedules by paypal or cheque. Excellent interface for checking your stats aswell.

Shareasale.com - have used this for cpa lead type programs with success. Regular payments are available via direct deposit and cheque. Some gems include sara freder affiliate program.

Freeze - often overlooked, but is a great earner. Provides links to free animated screensavers your visitors can download and make generous commissions as a result. An excellent money maker.

Google Adsense - excellent text based ads in a variety of sizes and customisable colors. Since the ads are based on your content they are relevant and in many cases quite profitable. Overture offer a similar service.

AllPosters - place links to a whole variety of posters to suit your site and you make 25-30% of the sale on any purchases made by clicking through your links. Huge variety, great commisions. One of my big earners!
